Highlights from the Spectacular Adult Skating Camp, July 30^th to August 1^st

Fifteen skaters from different states participated in this year’s skating camp. The camp ran from 3 to 9 on Friday, 8 to 6 on Saturday and 7:30 to 4:45 on Sunday.   Campers had the opportunity to work with select coaches on edgework, moves in the field, jump and spin technique, body awareness and movement, and Dartfish.  Professional off- ice instruction included yoga, kettle bells, injury prevention, and nutrition.  In addition, the skaters had the opportunity to discuss testing and competition information with a judge and technical specialist.     

We would like to thank our team of St.  Paul coaches: Erica Schletty, Ben Miller, Val Matzke, Karen Meck, Tara  Stamm, Tami Eshult, and Tom Incantalupo.  We extend a  special thanks to our other specialists: Elaine Walin, Julie Mattson-Ostrow, Wendy Meck-Poland and Dave and Daniel Kulenkamp. Finally, we would also like to thank our volunteers: Kimm and Rich Walin, Deborah Wertanen and Brad Daniels. Thank you to Carolyn Marker for making Saturdays lunch,  Colleen Bloom for designing and organizing the t-shirts and Westwood Sports for donating the goodie bags.

This weekend was a highly intensive training session for the adults.  Overheard being said were comments like “I did it, I love edges”, “Yea, snack time”, and “what a great session”.

The Second Annual Adult Skating Camp sent skaters home educated, energized and enthusiastic, ready to bring their skating to the next level.
